tip 1 Must have
Create a solid basis: work with a natural colored table linen and a set of napkins in the same color. It could be either white, beige or neutral. These colors will always match with any other color you’d like to add to the table, so you can never go wrong.
tip 2 Tableware
The tableware I’ve collected throughout the years are all in the same color palette. I rarely purchase complete sets, but rather focus on buying a few plates and bowls that are similar in size and shape to what I already have. This way it all matches well together and when you break something it’s easier to replace.
tip 3 Adding color
The nice thing about having a basic collection in table linen and tableware is that you can easily add one or more colors to the table. For instance, get another (or more) color(s) of linen napkins and find candles to match it with.
tip 4 Flowers
Flowers in small vases give your table a festive look, but you can also experiment a bit with the way the flowers are presented. For instance, create a guirlande to hang above your table. You can find a lot of inspiration online, from basic to more advanced. For inspiration visit @ruby_marylennox or @annevanmidden.
tip 5 Lucky finds
If you don’t want to spend too much money on collecting new plates, glassware or other items, pay your local thrift shop every now and then a visit. Browse for unique pieces that are in line with what you already have. It’s also worth a drive to another city or town, where the local community has a different taste/style. You will probably return with some lucky finds for a good buy.
