Daan is our Marketing & Business Development Director and recently joined Neolea. He is based in our office in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and is responsible for the management of the Dutch team which has a focus on growth in Western Europe. His tasks range from defining the commercial strategy, translating this into team responsibilities and relationship management with big customers and other stakeholders.
We wanted to get to know him even better & asked him a few questions about his work, passion for travelling and why Neolea is always part of his breakfast.
How is it like to work for Neolea?
In January 2019, I joined Neolea to fulfill a long lasting wish: working at a (yet) small company and have impact in growing it. Before Neolea, I worked in a startup company which was funded by a large insurer. Although I had a great time there, I couldn’t let go this amazing opportunity as Neolea is offering a beautiful and delicious product which has huge potential in a growing market.
What I really like is that we have a lot of focus with our team in growing Neolea and that we can be very creative as a small company. I strongly believe that is something our industry needs and I love to take the challenge to bring more awareness globally about the outstanding magic that olive oil can bring to a dish. That is still a long journey to go but everyday me and the rest of the Neolea members are working really hard on this mission. Meanwhile, I also enjoy the small things like compliments from customers or chefs who decided to work with us.
Can you tell us more about your passion for travelling?
Travelling is the number one thing I love to do. It brings me energy and inspiration which I take back to the office. Actually, I met my girlfriend when I was in the jungle at Borneo island, Malaysia, so we both like to get out there. Since our baby came into this world we needed to adjust our usual backpacking travels into more comfy, laid-back travelling, but we are still enjoying this to the fullest. The fact that I work for Neolea brings in an extra advantage, to be in close contact with other cultures. Different countries and cultures are giving me inspiration and energy to do new things, both in my private and my business life.
We heard the rumour that you put Neolea even on your breakfast. Is that true?
I am a huge fan of Ottolenghi, because of his fresh, new approach (and the use of lots of olive oil!). Nonetheless, I want to share a recipe which I make almost daily for breakfast. Personally, I believe breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I won’t function if I didn’t have breakfast during the morning. This recipe is the one I love to make when I have a busy schedule ahead such that I know I will have enough energy for hours.
Daan’s Breakfast Boom
- Greek yogurt
- Belgian dark chocolate granola by Naturally Granola
- 50g blueberries
- 1/2 banana
- 1 tsp honey
- 1 tsp Neolea Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Put 5-8 spoons of Greek yogurt into a bowl
- Add the belgian dark chocolate granola in the middle
- Slice the banana. Put the fruits on the sides.
- Finish with honey and Neolea Extra Virgin olive oil.
Out of this world taste, absolutely the highest quality olive oil I've had. Tried many different ones before but I will stay with Neolea for sure!
Great for all uses, especially tasty in salad dressings and as a bread dipper. Love it!
